Vivint offers a highly customized security solution for homes and businesses. While the Vivint system is specifically marketed toward businesses, the vast array of offerings in products and features can easily be tailored to any business needs.
Vivint is focused on providing flexibility and choices to their customers. While they have pre-selected popular packages from which you can choose, they are more focused on allowing you to pick and choose the devices and features that you need.
Quality and warranty
Vivint designs and manufacturers almost all of the equipment that they deploy, including the Sky Control Panel, which controls the entire system. This is a nice feature, as you know that the equipment you are purchasing is of high quality and is tailored specifically to Vivint’s system. The devices all work on Z-Wave technology and are wireless.
This may be a little bit of a downfall for customers who don’t have great cell service in their area, though. They do not offer hardwired connections or Wifi service. They provide a 120-day warranty on all their products, but it does come with a $49 service fee unless you purchase a premium service plan.
Vivint offers a wide variety of features. From basic home security to environmental monitoring to home automation to surveillance cameras and everything in between, Vivint has an offering for everybody.
The Sky Control Panel offers two-way voice communication, allowing you to connect remotely and speak with people right from the control panel. The system also comes with an impressive mobile app that allows you to check a live video feed of your security cameras as well as arm and disarm the system remotely.
Vivint’s security system can also be tied into home automation products such as smart light bulbs or thermostats, all of which can be controlled by the mobile app. The best part about this system is that it is compatible with all Amazon Echo and Nest products.
The company also offers Kwikset smart locks so that you can monitor the entrance of your building more easily, as well as a doorbell camera if you need it.
Vivint offers two basic monthly monitoring plans. Both come with the control panel, door and window sensors, a motion detector, the mobile app and a smoke detector. You can add on plenty of other equipment and features from there.
The Vivint Smart Home plan costs $39.99 per month for the professional monitoring. If you want to integrate video surveillance, you’ll need to upgrade to the Vivint Smart Home Video plan, which costs $49.99 per month.
The cost of the equipment is where it can get pricey. Cost information on all Vivint’s devices isn’t available online, and you’ll need to get a custom quote to build your a la carte system.
You will have two options for paying for this. The first is to opt for a month-to-month monitoring plan. The positive of this is you won’t be locked into a contract, but you’ll have to pay for the equipment upfront. You can also choose to finance the cost of the equipment. Vivint offers 0 percent interest for this option, but then you’ll be locked into a 42- or 60-month contract.
Vivint provides excellent professional monitoring of your security system. The two-way communication offered through the control panel also helps prevent false alarms, as the company’s professionals can make sure there isn’t an issue before dispatching emergency services.
The company’s customer service does lack a little bit according to customers, though, who report through reviews that Vivint takes a salesy approach to their service.
Vivint will handle the installation of your security system with their professional installers. This is a nice feature, but it will come with a fee of $99.99. Still, that is a pretty affordable fee to ensure your system is set up properly.
Things to consider
There is no doubt that Vivint has an impressive offering of features, devices and technology. The decisive point may be how affordable the system you desire is. The company will provide you with a free consultation and free quote, but the system itself could get quite expensive.
